Calling All Sweet Tooths

Bags of candy bars are $.94 - $1.04 each at  aFresh Market in Provo.  Why would you need so much candy you ask?  Are you kidding me!  I have no answer for that.

I was there this morning and there is plenty left.  Lots of Reeses Cups, Pieces, Nerds, Twizzlers, and ones seen in this picture.

Great Deals!

I found Sunland brand peanut butter on sale at Macey's yesterday for $1 each. These are 16 ounce containers. They are priced at $2 but when you use the $1 off coupon (stuck on the lid of each one) they come out to $1. Our family goes through a lot of peanut butter and I haven't found it for this cheap in a few months so I stocked up!

If you're interested, the cases of peanut butter are stacked in the main traffic aisle at the front of the store just before the baking aisle. I hope that makes sense.

I also found 16 ounce Western Family brand frozen vegetables (almost all varieties) on sale for 55 cents each (advertised as a 'Back to School' sale). We stocked up on this deal, too. If you check the freezer case and they are out of the kind you want go check the open freezer case back by the meat.

Girls Jeans For $4.79

When I was at KMart on Saturday I noticed they had a whole table full of jeans in the girl's section that were marked down. The price on the tags was $7.99 but a sign promised an additional 40% off of the marked price. Sure enough, they rang up at only $4.79 per pair!

These come in sizes 6-16 and there were still quite a few there (a full table). The brand is Riders by Lee. They have the adjustable waistband and come in 2 shades.

KMart is clearancing all of their summer clothes right now, too - swimsuits, t-shirts, shorts, capris, etc. so you can find some great deals. I found some boys t-shirts (size 6-14) for $3 each and some baby boy outfits (onesie, pants and shorts all included!) for $4.19.

Go stock up!

Happy Seven Eleven!

Every year on July 11th you can get a free 7.11 ounce slurpee at 7-11. Get it? Free 7.11 slurpee from 7-11 on 7/11. It's an easy one to remember.

Take your family tonight for some fun (and FREE) FHE treats!

Summer Fun

Did you know that Fat Cats has a summer program where all of your kids, up to age 17, can bowl for free every day (Monday through Friday, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm) from June-August? It's true! Each child also gets 4 free arcade tokens with each visit. The only catch is that you have to pay for each child's shoe rental which will cost you $2.13 for kids 12 and under and $2.66 for kids 13-17. This could make for a fairly inexpensive family activity this summer.

If you are interested, they also offer a "Kids Eat Cheap" program in conjunction with the free bowling. You can purchase a punch card for $45 which is good for 20 meals. A meal includes either a slice of pizza or a corn dog, a drink and a cookie. These meals normally cost around $5 at Fat Cats but end up costing only $2.25 with the punch card. If you think you'd be eating there anyway, this might be a worthwhile purchase. The lady I spoke with told me that the card can be used by children and adults. The cards are available for purchase at Fat Cats.

Procrastination on Planting Pays Off

Spring Valley Nursery in Orem has some awesome prices on veggies and flats of flowers.  We bought green, anaheim, and jalepeno peppers for $1/ea.  These are the large size containers.  All their tomatoes were also $1 each.  Again the large size.  I saw Early Girl, Celebrity, and Roma to name a few.  They had quite a few flats of flowers for $5/flat (I think there were 36 flowers/flat)!  We were there around 4pm (Saturday28th).  You might want to call and see how long those prices are going to last.  Super helpful and friendly staff too.  I had never been there before.

FREE Pretzels Today!

Just wanted to remind you that today is FREE pretzel day at PretzelMaker and PretzelTime locations. When I previously told you about this offer, Provo Towne Center was not participating in it - but now they are! If you'd rather head over to University Mall, they have two locations there as well.

If you didn't read about my experience with National Pretzel Day last year, you can find that here. If you don't want to read it, then just take my advice to get there early rather than later in the day.

Woo-hoo! FREE pretzels!

Free Trees

This is a "while supplies last" deal so it may be smart to call Lowe's ahead of time to ask how many trees will be available for this offer.

Picture These Deals

Remember the Bountiful Baskets co-op I told you about? Well, here's a picture of what I got in my last basket:
1 pineapple
a 5 lb. bag of mini golden potatoes
1 bunch of spinach
5 turnips
3 banana squash
1 acorn squash
6 tomatoes
3 mangoes
5 minneola tangelos
6 fuji apples
1 lb. green beans
6 bananas

Unfortunately, Bountiful Baskets seemed to become super popular overnight so now anytime I try to sign up for a basket I'm too late. Have any of you tried them out? What did you think?

Remember the free Target beauty bag I told you about? I got mine today! Here's what came in it:
I don't know about you but I love getting things in the mail - especially free gifts!

Mark Your Calendars

April has some great things in store - mark your calendars!
First off, IHOP is offering FREE kids' meals every day in April from 4-10 pm. This is only valid for kids 12 and under and you only get one free kid's meal per adult entree purchased - but this could work out to be a good deal for some of you.

Pretzelmaker has their annual FREE PRETZEL on National Pretzel Day giveaway, April 26th. They ask that you "sing for your snack" (much more fun option) or just mention National Pretzel Day (pretty boring if you ask me). There are two Pretzelmaker locations in the University Mall which are participating in this event. Get ready to sing for your snack!

My family went to do this last year at about 4 in the afternoon and once we got there (to the Provo Towne Center location, which is not participating this year) we were told that they had already given out their allotted amount of free pretzels. Well, my kids were pretty disappointed. They had spent the 2 days previous to this practicing a group number that they were going to perform to get their free pretzels and there was nothing on the website about a limited number of pretzels being available. I sent an email to the company expressing our disappointment and was surprised when I got a response asking for my home address. They sent us coupons for 10 free pretzels! Can you say: AWESOME.
The last April deal is at Baskin Robbins. On Wednesday, April 27th from 5-10 pm, they are offering every scoop of ice cream for only 31 cents. Who doesn't love ice cream? Mark your calendars!

Surveys = Cash

If anyone is interested, this is a survey company I have "worked" for for over 2 years now. They send surveys to your email box and you get $3 for each one that you complete. It's not a lot of money but I let it accumulate in my PayPal account and then use it towards Christmas gifts or anything else that comes up.

They don't open up their membership often so I thought I'd throw this out there for anyone who might be interested.

Dear GERBERTA:

**It’s not too late to take advantage of this special opportunity to refer households to apply for membership on the PineCone Research panel.** If you have already assisted with this effort - thank you and please feel free to disregard this email.

PineCone Research is growing and we invite you to help! We are offering select members the opportunity to recommend membership to a friend or relative who is NOT a member of their household.

That household should complete the registration form themselves and submit it. REMEMBER THAT ONLY ONE PERSON PER HOUSEHOLD MAY REGISTER. Here is the link to the registration:

Bountiful Baskets

photo from standard.net

Did you know there is a food co-op here in Provo? You can sign up to be a part of it at the website for Bountiful Baskets.

Here's how it works: you pre-pay $16.50 online ($15 + $1.50 handling fee) for a basket full of various fruits and vegetables then go pick it up at the designated location on Saturday morning (usually Provo Towne Center or Provo Towne Square). The first time you order there is an additional $3 fee to pay for the basket they use to prepare your order.

When you go to pick it up you bring a laundry basket for them to transfer your order into. It's a surprise every week - you find out what they are distributing when you show up - so if your family is picky about their fruits and vegetables, this may not be a good deal for you.

You can add things to your order such as 9-grain bread (5 loaves/$10), specialty packs of asian vegetables ($7.50) or cases of selected fruits and vegetables for the week (36 lbs. tangelos/$15.50).

I have done this once and my basket came with the following:

1 bunch of broccoli
1 head of lettuce
1 large bunch of spinach
2 lbs. carrots
6 sweet orange peppers
1/2 lb. mushrooms
2 cucumbers
4 lemons
1 bunch bananas
6 HUGE tangerines (these were SOOOO good!)
6 large apples
1 cantaloupe
1 lb. strawberries

I'm signed up again for this Saturday. I'll try to remember to take a picture of my basket.

Sign-ups are open from Monday at noon until Tuesday at noon but they go quickly. If I don't remember to sign up before Monday evening there are usually no baskets left.

Krispy Kreme For Kids

Did you know that Krispy Kreme rewards kids for good grades? When report card time rolls around you can take them in to Krispy Kreme and your kids can get a free doughnut for each 'A' grade (up to 6 max., I believe).

No purchase is necessary - but I usually buy something because I feel guilty for leaving with a whole load of free doughnuts...

Got Milk?

BYU Creamery (located at 1209 North 900 East) always has milk at 3/$5. That's only $1.66 a gallon! It doesn't matter what kind you buy, either - skim, 1%, 2% and whole milk are all included in this deal. Not only is it a great deal, I think their milk is a higher quality than the stuff we get at the grocery store - and it's nice to know that the price is constant.
We're a fruit family, so here's the ads that popped out at me: Sunflower markets has their grapefruit 6/$1, Rancho Markets (1700 N. State-Provo) has their oranges 6 lbs/$0.99, and red grapes $.89/lb-both great deals! My sister gets their oranges and says they're usually juicy and sweet.

How This Works

photo found here

Hello Ladies! I am excited to have a place where we can all read about and share the great deals we find. Because I love blogging, this seemed to me like the easiest way to get the information out to everyone. Here's what I'm hoping will happen...

On posting bargains:
Any of you who would like to are welcome to just come to this blog and write about deals that you are aware of. If I have your email address then I sent you an invitation to be a blog author. All you have to do is accept that invitation and then post to your heart's content! If you were not invited to be an author but would like to be one, send your email address to gerbdonna at gmail dot com and I'll send you an invite. If you don't know how to create a post, let me know and I'll be happy to show you.

On following the blog:
The easiest way to know when a new deal has been posted is to become a follower of this blog. You can do that by either clicking on the 'follow' button at the top of the sidebar or by adding this blog to Google Reader (if you have a gmail account there is a link for reader at the top of your email screen). If neither of those sound do-able then you can just tell me to add your email to the notification list and you'll get an email every time there is a new blog post.

Clear as mud?

If you have any questions you can leave them in the comments (click on the 'comments' link at the end of this post).

I'm super excited about this. I can't wait to share the great bargains I find and read about yours, too.
