Bountiful Baskets

photo from standard.net

Did you know there is a food co-op here in Provo? You can sign up to be a part of it at the website for Bountiful Baskets.

Here's how it works: you pre-pay $16.50 online ($15 + $1.50 handling fee) for a basket full of various fruits and vegetables then go pick it up at the designated location on Saturday morning (usually Provo Towne Center or Provo Towne Square). The first time you order there is an additional $3 fee to pay for the basket they use to prepare your order.

When you go to pick it up you bring a laundry basket for them to transfer your order into. It's a surprise every week - you find out what they are distributing when you show up - so if your family is picky about their fruits and vegetables, this may not be a good deal for you.

You can add things to your order such as 9-grain bread (5 loaves/$10), specialty packs of asian vegetables ($7.50) or cases of selected fruits and vegetables for the week (36 lbs. tangelos/$15.50).

I have done this once and my basket came with the following:

1 bunch of broccoli
1 head of lettuce
1 large bunch of spinach
2 lbs. carrots
6 sweet orange peppers
1/2 lb. mushrooms
2 cucumbers
4 lemons
1 bunch bananas
6 HUGE tangerines (these were SOOOO good!)
6 large apples
1 cantaloupe
1 lb. strawberries

I'm signed up again for this Saturday. I'll try to remember to take a picture of my basket.

Sign-ups are open from Monday at noon until Tuesday at noon but they go quickly. If I don't remember to sign up before Monday evening there are usually no baskets left.

Krispy Kreme For Kids

Did you know that Krispy Kreme rewards kids for good grades? When report card time rolls around you can take them in to Krispy Kreme and your kids can get a free doughnut for each 'A' grade (up to 6 max., I believe).

No purchase is necessary - but I usually buy something because I feel guilty for leaving with a whole load of free doughnuts...

Got Milk?

BYU Creamery (located at 1209 North 900 East) always has milk at 3/$5. That's only $1.66 a gallon! It doesn't matter what kind you buy, either - skim, 1%, 2% and whole milk are all included in this deal. Not only is it a great deal, I think their milk is a higher quality than the stuff we get at the grocery store - and it's nice to know that the price is constant.
We're a fruit family, so here's the ads that popped out at me: Sunflower markets has their grapefruit 6/$1, Rancho Markets (1700 N. State-Provo) has their oranges 6 lbs/$0.99, and red grapes $.89/lb-both great deals! My sister gets their oranges and says they're usually juicy and sweet.

How This Works

photo found here

Hello Ladies! I am excited to have a place where we can all read about and share the great deals we find. Because I love blogging, this seemed to me like the easiest way to get the information out to everyone. Here's what I'm hoping will happen...

On posting bargains:
Any of you who would like to are welcome to just come to this blog and write about deals that you are aware of. If I have your email address then I sent you an invitation to be a blog author. All you have to do is accept that invitation and then post to your heart's content! If you were not invited to be an author but would like to be one, send your email address to gerbdonna at gmail dot com and I'll send you an invite. If you don't know how to create a post, let me know and I'll be happy to show you.

On following the blog:
The easiest way to know when a new deal has been posted is to become a follower of this blog. You can do that by either clicking on the 'follow' button at the top of the sidebar or by adding this blog to Google Reader (if you have a gmail account there is a link for reader at the top of your email screen). If neither of those sound do-able then you can just tell me to add your email to the notification list and you'll get an email every time there is a new blog post.

Clear as mud?

If you have any questions you can leave them in the comments (click on the 'comments' link at the end of this post).

I'm super excited about this. I can't wait to share the great bargains I find and read about yours, too.
